At North Commerce, we’re looking for ways to enhance your experience and make your e-commerce operations smoother. Yesterday, we implemented a significant performance update that reduces the time it takes to add an item to the cart and will be pushing this update out soon.

The Challenge: Previously, when an item was added to the cart, the system would re-query the product information, including images and other details. This process took about 2 seconds, which slowed down the user experience and was looking for information that we already had access to. In North Commerce we have this concept called “Flows” and this is how we universally manage all of our ecommerce functionality. This means that any time we make a performance update others plugins that use our flows will automatically benefit, like Beaver Builder blocks, our Block Editor Blocks and Bricks Builder.

The Solution: To address this, we optimized the process by caching or utilizing the product information already available from the initial page load. This change reduced the add-to-cart request time to around 400ms.

Future Improvements: With further optimizations and by leveraging good hosting on BigScoots.com, we aim to reduce this time even further to just 250 milliseconds. It’s worth noting that these improvements were achieved without using Cloudflare or any other caching, highlighting the efficiency of our current setup.

Check Out Our Demo: We invite you to experience these improvements firsthand by checking out a demo of the North Commerce store. See how our optimizations can enhance your shopping experience!
